The Benedictine University baseball team won the opener 10-3 but fell victim to a solid pitching performance in game two, dropping a 7-2 contest to split a doubleheader with Marian.
Benedictine led 4-0 in the opener before Marian pulled within a run by scoring three times in the sixth. Benedictine scored runs in each of their final four visits to the plate and put the game away with a two-run homer from
Cole Wilson in the ninth. Wilson finished with four hits and drove home five, doubling twice in addition to homering.
Jackson Bahn struck out 11 in 5.1 innings to earn the win while
Nick Shelton finished out the game with 3.2 innings of relief to save his second game of the season. Benedictine stole five bases in the win.
Marian's Logan Lange threw 130 pitches in a complete game in the second contest. Benedictine did not lead in the game. Trailing 1-0,
Kevin Bushnell dumped a single into center to tie the game in the fifth. After Marian scored in the bottom of the inning
Andrew Tenison homered in the sixth but Marian plated five runs in the eighth for the win. Benedictine managed just six hits, two of which came from
Peter Turelli.
