The Benedictine University softball team kicked off the weekend by posting a pair of shutouts in 9-0 and 16-0 five-inning games with visiting Mount Mary in non-conference action.
Benedictine wasted no time in either contest, scoring four runs in the first inning of the opener.
Colleen Schmit notched a two-run single to open the scoring. Benedictine finished with 12 hits in the game as all nine members of the lineup posted at least one. Schmit knocked home three runs.
Alexandra Loizon struck out five to earn the shutout in the circle, allowing just one hit.
Ashley Fisher lifted a sacrifice fly in the first to open the scoring in the second contest and Benedictine broke the game open with 10 runs in the fourth.
Taylor Skraba finished 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs.
Jasmine Lozano, Schmit and
Morgan Bruno all posted two hits. Lozano tossed four shutout innings and allowed just three hits while striking out four.

Benedictine (12-6) is back in action on Saturday against Alverno at 12pm in a conference doubleheader that will feature the dedication of the softball field.
