The Benedictine University softball team went toe-to-toe with the nationally ranked leaders of the NACC, Concordia Wisconsin, but dropped a pair of close contests by scores of 1-0 and 6-2.
On a cold day offense was hard to find in the opener. Aexandra Loizonl matched one of the top pitchers in the nation pitch-per-pitch but Concordia Wisconsin was able to manufacture a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly despite an appeal that the runner left early. Both teams managed just four hits in the game. Loizon allowed just the one run while striking out four.
Concordia Wisconsin used five runs in the third of the second game to take the lead.
Colleen Schmit drove home a run in the fifth and Benedictine brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth but the visitors were able to escape and tack on an insurance run to account for the final.
Taylor Oppenhuis finished 3-for-3 at the plate as Benedictine totaled seven hits in the second contest.
Jasmine Lozano suffered the loss, allowing just one earned run in 3.2 innings.
Bella Lodico worked 3.1 innings in relief, allowing just one run.
