The Benedictine University football team rushed for 265 yards and held the ball for over 31 minutes in streaking to the first win of the season on homecoming, taking down Concordia Chicago 48-14.
Both teams scored in the first quarter.
Gregory Hoard broke free for a 40-yard touchdown on Benedictine's first possession to make the score 7-0 with 7:41 left in the opening quarter. Concordia Chicago responded to tie the game late in the first quarter but Benedictine would tally the next 28 points in the win.
Nathan Rillo opened the second quarter with a six-yard touchdown run. Following a three-and-out, Rillo reeled in a 25-yard touchdown catch. A sack ended a Concordia Chicago drive deep in Benedictine territory before Hoard plunged in from a yard out to make the score 28-7 headed to the half.
Nick Shelton snared a 19-yard touchdown to cap a long drive midway through the third. Rillo added a nine-yard score late in the third after Concordia Chicago broke up the spurt as Benedictine led 42-14. The lone fourth quarter score was a 22-yard run from
Blake Shoddie.
Benedictine accumulated 527 yards of offense in the win.
Hector Gonzalez threw for 262 yards and finished 24-of-27 through the air with two touchdowns. Rillo caught seven passes for 99 yards and a touchdown and also added two rushing scores on five carries. Hoard ran for 123 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns. Shelton caught nine passes for 118 yards.
Tyler Walker led the defense with 10 tackles.
Keenon Davis posted 3.5 tackles for loss with two sacks.
Brian Pritt notched three sacks. Benedictine did not punt in the entire contest.
Benedictine (1-2, 1-1 NACC) is off next week and will play at Concordia Wisconsin on October 7.
