The Benedictine University football team stopped a four-game slide by scoring 42 first half points to win at Eureka 42-0.
Benedictine opened the game with possession and marched down the field to set the tone for the contest.
Alex Siebens reeled in a 15-yard touchdown from
Evan Wydajewski with 8:43 remaining in the opening quarter to put Benedictine up 7-0. After forcing a punt
Dino Stephens, Jr. used a 47-yard run to set up his six-yard touchdown rush, making the score 14-0.
Brian Pritt forced a fumble to setup Benedictine on the Eureka side of the field.
Blake Shoddie plunged in from from five yards, making the score 21-0 at the 2:53 mark. Shoddie found the endzone again following a lengthy drive midway through the second, making the score 28-0 with 8:33 left in the first half. Stephens recorded his second touchdown after a three-and-out to make the score 35-0 with under two minutes remaining in the half. Benedictine took over following a short punt with 11 seconds left in the half and Wydajewski hit
Sebastian Hill for the final points.
Benedictine racked up 227 yards rushing and finished with 364 yards total for the game. Eureka was limited to 173 yards. Stephens netted 132 yards with two touchdowns on nine carries for an average of over 14 yards per touch. Shoddie added 90 yards on 18 carries. The defense recorded five sacks, two from
Jack Hayden.
John Thompson led the team with seven tackles.
Benedictine (4-4, 2-4 NACC) visits Aurora next week.
