The Benedictine University women's basketball team finally opened the season, falling 54-42 at home to visiting Carthage.
Carthage opened a 12-2 lead, scoring 12 consecutive points after Benedictine opened the scoring. Benedictine was able to pull within six in the second quarter but Carthage held a 24-14 lead at the half and opened a 13-point lead in the third. The lead reached 17 in the fourth as Carthage, playing their third game of the year, grabbed the win.
Benedictine finished the game shooting 31 percent while Carthage held a 42-34 edge on the glass.
Megan Duzansky opened the season with a double-double, recording 12 points and 12 boards.
Alexis Schueler added seven points in her collegiate debut. Benedictine turned the ball over 20 times leading to 21 points for Carthage.
Benedictine (0-1) visits Beloit on Wednesday night.
