The Benedictine University women's basketball team scored a second consecutive victory, holding off visiting Saint Mary's to win a tight contest 57-55.
The contest featured with ties and nine lead changes.
Kaya Osinski finished a 7-0 run with 2:20 left in the opening quarter to put Benedictine ahead 11-4. Benedictine held a 16-7 edge after the first. Saint Mary's came back to tie the score midway through the second before the back-and-forth started with Benedictine leading 30-29 at the break on a
Olympia Kokkines layup. Benedictine led by six in the third but again the visitors would not go away. Saint Mary's twice tied the score in the fourth and drew within a point in the closing seconds on a split of free throws but could not grab the lead.
Benedictine shot 32.8 percent in the game and held a 38-37 edge on the glass. Benedictine turned 24 turnovers into 20 points.
Makenzie Carroll paced Benedictine with 13 points.
Alexis Schueler and
Megan Duzansky both totaled nine.
Benedictine (2-1) visits North Central on Tuesday night.
