The Benedictine University men's basketball team took a break from finals week to host Dominican in a conference contest, leading the entire way to collect an 88-66 win and halt a six-game slide on Wednesday night.
Benedictine scored the first six points of the game and did not look back. Dominican converted on a pair of free throws midway through the opening half to pull within a point but
Tanner Resch ignited an 11-0 run to put Benedictine up double figures. The lead grew to 18 at the break. Pat Mayfield handed Benedictine their largest lead at 61-33 with 12:49 remaining. Dominican slowly chipped away, drawing within 72-59 with just over four minutes to go before Benedictine was able to build that advantage up to the final score.
Benedictine finished +10 on the glass (43-33), scored 48 points in the paint and received 40 points from the bench. The team shot 45.7 percent in the contest and was 19-of-24 from the line. Resch led all scorers with 22 points.
Ryan Sammons came off the bench to score 21. Mayfield logged 18 points to go with 10 rebounds.
Benedictine (2-6, 1-2 NACC) heads to Lakeland on Saturday.
