The Benedictine University women's basketball team will head into the holiday break on a winning note after taking down Monmouth 64-52 in a Wednesday afternoon non-conference contest.
Monmouth scored the first five points of the contest and led 8-2, but consecutive three from
Hailey Bachmann tied the score. A rebound basket from
Olympia Kokkines put Benedictine ahead for good at 12-10 with 4:32 left in the opening quarter. The basket ignited a 13-2 run. Benedictine led 25-16 after one and pushed the lead to 17 points late in the first half before heading to the break on top 41-26. Monmouth closed to within eight at the end of the third but Benedictine again extended the lead to double figures, holding off a run to tally the win.
Benedictine shot 35 percent for the game. Four players hit double figures including three starters. Bachmann notched 13 and recorded three blocks.
Allison Jarvis came off the bench to score 12. Kokkines and
Makenzie Carroll both tacked on 11.
Benedictine (4-4) will host Carroll in another non-conference matchup as part of a doubleheader with the men on December 30.
