The Benedictine University men's volleyball team regrouped to twice rally from down a set to open conference play at home with a five-set victory over a pesky Illinois Tech squad.
Illinois Tech took the opening set and also captured the third, but Benedictine was able to rally to take the fourth and pull away in the fifth to score the win. Benedictine has never lost their NACC opener since the conference began sponsoring men's volleyball in 2019.
Benedictine hit .285 for the match and logged 10 blocks. The team hit .429 in the second and .333 in the fourth while swatting .400 in the decisive set.
Anthony Dobie led the way with 17 kills.
Brannen Almarales notched 15 with
Cooper Armstrong tallying 13 and
Chase Olson nine.
Eoin O'Toole and
Spencer VanEngen both recorded five blocks. VanEngen distributed 50 assists to go with 11 digs.
Jordan Cardenas led the defense with 17 digs while
Max Barbeau tacked on 10.
Benedictine (6-6, 1-0 NACC) will host St. Norbert on Saturday afternoon.
