Playing for the first time in nearly a month due to weather, the Benedictine University softball team opened the home and conference schedule with a split of two games against the preseason favorite, Concordia Wisconsin.
GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 3, CUW 2 - 10 INNINGS
Taylor Oppenhuis roped a two-run double in the third inning to give Benedictine the lead, but Concordia Wisconsin came back to tie the contest with a run in the seventh to force extras.
Both teams had numerous chances throughout the game and in extras, but
Mia Giammarese won the game with an infield single.
Benedictine managed just six hits in the contest, all coming from different individuals. In addition to the two-run double, Oppenhuis walked four times. Bella Lodica went the distance in the circle, grabbing her fifth win of the season after allowing just two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.
GAME TWO: CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 2, BENEDICTINE 1
The visitors scored twice in the fourth inning and were able to hold on for the victory. Benedictine drew within 2-1 in the fifth on a
Morgan Bruno RBI single but left the tying run on base in the fifth, sixth and seventh.
Bruno logged two hits along with
Haley Barnes and
Ashlyn Rapacz. Giammarese tossed a complete game but suffered the loss.
Benedictine (8-4, 1-1 NACC) is slated to visit Lakeland on Saturday.
