The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team allowed three consecutive goals in the fourth to drop the conference opener at Illinois Tech by an 11-10 final.
The contest was back and forth throughout with neither team holding larger than a two-goal advantage. Illinois Tech scored three straight before the half to lead 6-4 at the break.
Robert Schroeder opened a run of four straight goals late in the third as Benedictine took a 10-8 lead with 8:29 to play on a goal from
Dylan Langley. Illinois Tech countered with three straight, putting in the winner with under two minutes to play in a man-up situation.
Benedictine posted 41 shots, was a perfect 17-for-17 on clears and picked up 30 groundballs.
Colin Doyle played the whole game in net and made 18 saves.
Ben Zimmerman scored twice and added three assists. Schroeder,
Will Robinson and
Tyler Sarna also posted a pair of goals.
Benedictine (1-8, 0-1 NACC) hosts Edgewood on Wednesday night.
