Trailing 7-5, the Benedictine University baseball team scored five unanswered runs including three in the ninth to score a 10-7 win over Fontbonne in the first game of the Florida trip.
Benedictine scored twice in the top of the first but Fontbonne tied the game with a pair in the bottom of the fram. Benedictine went on to open a 5-2 edge, using a two-run homer from
Brennan Fisher in the fifth. Fontbonne plated five in the sixth to take the lead but
Peter Turelli tied the game with a two-run single in the seventh.
Chase Hanselman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home the go-ahead run.
Nick Kosmetatos made his second start of the season and threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and exiting with the lead.
Nick Shelton earned the win, working two scoreless innings including the ninth after allowing the first two of the inning to reach base.
Benedictine totaled 11 hits and scored in five different innings. Turelli and
Logan Gregorio both notched three hits. Turelli and Fisher both drove home three.
Anthony Lenza executed two squeeze plays.
Benedictine (3-0) meets St. John Fisher on Tuesday at 4pm Eastern.
