With the season just over halfway done, the eighth ranked Benedictine University baseball team has reached the 20-win marker after taking the second game in a doubleheader split at Dominican.
GAME ONE: DOMINICAN 8, BENEDICTINE 1
DeShawnte Carraway put Benedictine ahead in the top of the second with a two-out RBI single. Dominican responded with four in the bottom of the inning and limited the Benedictine bats the rest of the way.
Three different pitchers appeared in the contest for Benedictine, who managed just four hits.
GAME TWO: BENEDICTINE 7, DOMINICAN 5
Benedictine led for most of the second game before Dominican made a comeback. Trailing 5-4 in the eighth, Benedictine scored three times to tab the victory.
Brennan Fisher lifted a sacrifice fly in the top of the first and
Jake Petak hit a two-run homer in the fourth as Benedictine led 3-0. All three runs in the eighth came unearned. A sacrifice fly from
Justin Nonnenmann handed Benedictine the lead.
Nolan Fasel started and threw 4.1 innings.
Austin Pizer grabbed the win by working 2.1 frames.
Kevin Bushnell finished with three hits while
George Betevis notched a pair.
Benedictine (20-4, 9-3 NACC) heads to MSOE on Saturday.
