The 14th ranked Benedictine University baseball team totaled 21 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Wisconsin Lutheran at home on Tuesday.
GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 10, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 2
Benedictine grabbed the lead in the first inning and did not look back to win the opener, using a new-look lineup to get things rolling.
Kevin Bushnell lifted a sacrifice fly to open the scoring and added an RBI single as part of a four-run third which broke the game open.
Austin Pizer made his first start, tossing five shutout innings to earn the win. The Benedictine bats recorded 13 hits.
Ryan Doubek and
Brennan Fisher each produced three with
George Betevis and
Anthony Lenza logging two apiece. Bushnell drove home three. Benedictine swiped five bases in the victory, helping set the tone.
GAME TWO: BENEDICTINE 11, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 0
Logan Gregorio rocketed a two-run double in the first inning and Benedictine went on to score in five different innings to record the sweep.
Benedictine took advantage of two errors, five walks and five wild pitches to pull away. The offense scored 11 times on just nine hits. Gregorio and Fisher both knocked home three. Doubek, Bushnell and Gregorio all tallied a pair of hits.
Conner Kendall struck out eight in six blank innings to pick up his fourth win of the year.
Benedictine (22-6, 11-5 NACC) hosts Marian on Saturday and will honor the senior class.
