The Benedictine University baseball team was able to celebrate the seniors with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Marian on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 8, MARIAN 0
Benedictine jumped on Marian's starter in the first inning, scoring five runs and did not look back.
Kevin Bushnell,
Logan Gregorio and
Brennan Fisher all tallied RBI single in the first. Benedictine padded the lead with three in the sixth inning to put away the opener.
Jackson Bahn threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits while walking one and striking out seven.
Nick Shelton closed out the win in the opener. Bushnell finished with two hits and drove home three.
George Betevis also tallied a pair of hits.
GAME TWO: BENEDICTINE 7, MARIAN 5
Benedictine was able to rally to a win in the back-and-forth finale to notch the sweep. Marian held leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in the game.
Justin Nonnenmann was able to tie the game in the seventh with a sacrifice fly.
Anthony Lenza and Betevis both collected RBI singles later in the four-run inning. Marian evened the game in the eighth but Gregorio left no doubt about the victor with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning that may have not landed yet.
Gregorio, Bushnell and
David Rubin all collected a pair of hits.
Andrew Kurcz worked 7.2 innings in a no-decision, fanning five.
Austin Pizer worked the final 1.1 innings to notch the win.
Ryan Doubek reached base in both games to extend his on-base streak to 64, sixth longest in NCAA Division III history. The wins pulled Benedictine within one of the conference lead in the loss column.
