The Benedictine University baseball team rallied from down four runs to win the opener in extras but needed to settle for a split of a road doubleheader at Edgewood.
GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 14, EDGEWOOD 5 - EIGHT INNINGS
Edgewood scored five runs in the fifth but Benedictine rallied to tie the game and send it to extras before exploding for nine runs.
David Rubin and
DeShawnte Carraway hit back-to-back homers in the sixth inning to help jump start the comeback. Rubin tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh. The first of nine runs in the extra inning scored when
Chase Hanselman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Benedictine drew eight walks and banged out 10 hits in the opener.
Ryan Doubek,
Brennan Fisher and Rubin posted two hits apiece.
George Betevis scored three runs.
Jackson Bahn struck out eight in five innings.
Nick Shelton earned the win by working the final three frames.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD 8, BENEDICTINE 3
Benedictine did not lead in the second contest. The middle of the order did the damage for Edgewood, who homered three times and led 8-1 before two runs in the seventh.
Doubek finished with two hits and two RBIs.
Andrew Kurcz worked three innings and took the loss.
Benedictine (25-8, 14-6) will take on #4 Baldwin Wallace in a non-conference game on Sunday in Indiana.
