The Benedictine University softball team ran their win streak to six by scoring 25 runs in a sweep of Alverno on Sunday at home.
GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 16, ALVERNO 8
Benedictine scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to erase an 8-6 deficit.
The inning opened with a solo homer from
Taylor Oppenhuis, who would later post a three-run double. Benedictine sent 14 to the plate in the inning. Benedictine amassed 15 hits in the game. Oppenhuis drove home five runs. Oppenhuis,
Lauryn Olson, Hayley Barnes,
Sam Davidowski,
Mia Giammarese and
Victoria Duszynski all tallied two hits.
Bella Lodico earned the win, starting the game and then re-entering in the fourth.
GAME TWO: BENEDICTINE 9, ALVERNO 7
The second game was very similar to the first. Alverno scored twice in the first and tied the game at 5-5 and 6-6 before Benedictine scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. A two-run homer from Barnes in the sixth provided the needed insurance.
The top five hitters in the lineup accounted for 11 of the 14 total hits for Benedictine. Duszynski collected three while
Morgan Bruno, Oppenhuis, Barnes and Giammarese all notched two. Lodico came on in relief to work three innings and take the win in both ends of the double.
Benedictine (23-11, 13-7 NACC) visits North Central on Tuesday for a makeup doubleheader.
