The ninth-ranked Benedictine University baseball team came from behind late in both contests to sweep a doubleheader from visiting Concordia Chicago.
GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 7, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 4
Trailing 3-0, Benedictine scored six times in the bottom of the fifth, five of which were unearned, to win in the opener.
George Betevis hit a no doubt three-run blast with the game even to put Benedictine ahead.
Jackson Bahn made his home debut for 2024, tossing four scoreless innings, striking out four.
Dean Rokkas earned the win while
Austin Pizer worked two innings for his fourth save of the season.
Justin Nonnenmann tripled and scored twice while logging a pair of hits. The triple helped jump start the offense in the fifth.
GAME TWO: BENEDICTINE 10, CONCORDIA CHICAGO 7
Concordia Chicago took the lead three batters into the game and held it until the eighth inning when Benedictine erupted for five runs. Benedictine was down 6-2 before scoring three times in the seventh.
David Rubin tied the game by drawing a bases loaded walk in the eighth. Nonnenmann followed with a two-run single.
Benedictine drew 12 walks in the contest and finished with just nine hits, seven of which came from the combo of Rubin, Nonnenmann and
DeShawnte Carraway. Making his debut on the mound,
Jack Hayden earned the win, striking out three in two innings.
Conner Kendall started and fanned six in five innings as the pitching staff struck out 11.
Ryan Doubek and
Logan Gregorio both kept their on-base streaks alive. Doubek is at 56 and Gregorio at 51.
Benedictine (19-3, 8-2 NACC) visits Dominican on Wednesday.
