Softball Splits Two Tight Ones on Senior Day

The Benedictine University softball team wrapped up the home portion of the schedule with a pair of one-run contests on Senior Day, splitting 2-1 decisions with Rockford.

GAME ONE: BENEDICTINE 2, ROCKFORD 1
Rockford score a run in the top of the first and held that lead all the way until the sixth inning. Lauryn Olson capped a 15-pitch at bat with a double to left that brought home Victoria Duszynski with the tying run with two outs. Morgan Bruno recorded a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh and stole second with two outs before crossing the plate with the winning run on an RBI single from Haley Barnes.

Bella Lodica earned her 15th win of the season by tossing the complete game. Seven different players posted hits for Benedictine led by two apiece from Bruno and Taylor Oppenhuis at the top of the lineup.

GAME TWO: ROCKFORD 2, BENEDICTINE 1 - NINE INNINGS
Game two was nearly the same as the opener with the script flipped. Benedictine took the lead in the second inning when Lodico knocked home Cami Hurt with a two-out RBI single. The tally would be the lone run for Benedictine in the contest. Rockford tied the game with an unearned run in the sixth and was able to earn the split by scoring in the top of the ninth.

Hurt notched two hits. Mia Giammarese, Lauren Gallagher and Lodico all pitched in the contest.

Benedictine (24-14, 14-8 NACC) concludes the regular season on Monday at Aurora.
