Tanner Resch and
Patrick Mayfield both eclipsed 20 points but the Benedictine University men's basketball team suffered a 72-67 loss on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Wisconsin.
Concordia Wisconsin built an 18-point lead in the first half, using a pair of 8-0 runs to gain distance. Resch converted on a layup in the final minute as Benedictine trailed 39-27 at halftime. Mayfield sank a three with 13:39 left in the game to bring Benedictine within 49-40. Down 12 with 7:54 left, Mayfield opened a 9-0 spurt capped by a three from
Brandon McCoy that brought Benedictine within 59-56. Benedictine was again within three inside of three minutes, but Concordia Wisconsin answered every time.
While near perfect at the free throw line (11-12), Benedictine was just 4-of-22 from three-point range and finished the contest shooting 41.7 percent. Benedictine was +4 on the glass (34-30) and scored 36 points in the paint. Resch was 9-16 from the field and finished with a game best 24 points. Mayfield added 23.
Noah Mason was a beast on the glass, reeling in 14 boards.
Benedictine (4-10, 3-4 NACC) visits Dominican on Wednesday night.
