The Benedictine University men's basketball team shot 52.5 percent from the field and recorded a 94-81 win at Dominican to cap a stretch of three consecutive road games which saw the team finish 2-1.
Benedictine trailed only briefly at 3-2 before ripping off seven straight to move ahead by six. The team opened a double digit edge at 18-8 when
Patrick Mayfield completed a three-point play just over five minutes into the contest. Benedictine held a 49-35 advantage at halftime. Dominican whittled the deficit down to just four points early in the second, but Benedictine was able to respond and pull away.
Tanner Resch and Mayfield logged impressive performances. Mayfield tallied 31 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and three steals, playing all 40 minutes. Resch logged 27 on 9-of-16 shooting in 39 minutes of action to go with six rebounds and seven assists.
Nathan LaPlant, who helped set the early tone, also reached double figures with 13. LaPlant also grabbed six board while blocking five shots.
Noah Mason finished with a team high seven boards. Benedictine held a 42-34 edge on the glass and made 24 free throws.
Benedictine (5-10, 4-4 NACC) hosts Marian on Saturday.
