The Benedictine University women's basketball team crept over the .500 mark on the season by winning a second straight game, toppling visiting Marian 64-49 on Saturday afternoon.
It took Benedictine a while to settle in. The team did not score in the final four minutes of the first quarter, trailing 12-8 after one. Marian led by five to start the second but Benedictine jumped ahead for good by using a 12-0 run to lead 26-17 after a jumper from
Alexis Schueler with 1:38 left in the half. Benedictine extended the lead to 11 at the break and led by 16 in the third. Marian slowly chipped away but could get no closer than 12 in the fourth.
Benedictine shot 37.7 percent in the game and held a 45-41 edge on the glass while scoring 32 points in the paint. Three players reached double figures led by 14 from
Megan Duzansky, who also grabbed eight rebounds.
Allison Jarvis added 13 with
Hailey Bachmann notching 11.
Benedictine (8-7, 4-2 NACC) heads to St. Norbert on Wednesday.
