The Benedictine University men's basketball team scored the first seven points of the game but could not overcome a hot shooting MSOE team on the road, suffering an 81-70 setback on Saturday afternoon.
Noah Mason and
Brandon McCoy combined for the first seven points. MSOE responded with 12 consecutive points. The game was back-and-forth for most of the first half before MSOE went on a run late, leading by eight.
Patrick Mayfield hit a three before the half as Benedictine went in trailing 45-40.
Nathan LaPlant dropped in a three-pointer to open the second half. MSOE scored the next eight to lead by double figures and led by as many as 20 points to grab the win.
MSOE shot 61 percent in the first half and finished the game at 56.7 percent. Benedictine shot 39 percent. The contest featured nine lead changes and six ties.
Tanner Resch paced Benedictine with 18 points. Mayfield tallied 15 to go along with eight rebounds. Mason collected 11 points.
Benedictine (5-13, 4-7 NACC) hosts Aurora on Wednesday night.
