Visiting Rockford University hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to record a 67-64 win over the Benedictine University men's basketball team in conference play at home on Saturday afternoon.
Benedictine scored the first six points of the game as three different individuals posted baskets. The remainder of the first half was tight with neither side leading by more than four points.
Ryan Tucker hit back-to-back threes at the close of the first half as Benedictine took a 37-31 lead into the break. Rockford pulled within two by netting the first four points of the second half and the contest again remained close. Rockford led by five points with 3:34 remaining at 64-59 before
Brandon McCoy knocked down a three.
Tanner Resch tied the game at 64 apiece with a layup at the 1:55 mark but Benedictine did not score again, twice turning the ball over with chances to take the lead. The game featured 11 ties and seven lead changes.
Benedictine shot 51 percent in the first half and 45 percent for the contest but was outrebounded 45-25 with Rockford reeling in 19 offensive boards which converted into 21 second chance points. Resch led all scorers with 17 points, adding five assists.
