The Benedictine University women's basketball team played for the first time in 2025, trekking to Knox to drop a 77-63 decision in non-conference play on Saturday.
Benedictine led for more than half of the opening quarter.
Hailey Bachmann opened the scoring with a three-pointer on the game's first possession. Another three from Bachmann put Benedictine in front by five at 11-6 with just over six minutes remaining in the quarter. Knox battled back to lead 21-18 after the opening 10 minutes and built the lead to double digits late in the first half. The hosts led 45-33 at the break. Knox scored the first seven points of the third and led by 20 at 58-38 with 4:41 left in the third. Benedictine closed the quarter with five straight points capped by a three-point play from
Cami Hurt to draw within 60-49 after three. Hurt tapped home the first points of the fourth to bring Benedictine within nine but Knox again went on to lead by 20 and held on for the win.
Benedictine shot 36.8 percent in the loss. Three players reached double figures in the defeat. Bachmann and
Allison Jarvis both notched 11 with
Alexis Schueler putting up 10 in a balanced effort.
Benedictine (4-6) will play another non-conference affair on Monday night against Mount Mary at 6pm.
