The Benedictine University softball team opened the home portion of the schedule by using a pair of big innings to sweep North Park in non-conference play.
BENEDICTINE 9, NORTH PARK 1 - 6 Innings
A four-run first ignited the offense early before Benedictine pulled away late. North Park did not record a hit off starter
Mckenzie Johnson until there was one out in the fourth. Johnson struck out 10 in a complete game.
Taylor Oppenhuis opened the scoring with an RBI double.
Victoria Duszynski added a three-run homer in the inning. Two more crossed the plate in the second and after a single run in the fifth, Benedictine plated two in the sixth to end the game early.
Oppenhuis and
Morgan Bruno both notched two hits. Oppenhuis also knocked in three.
BENEDICTINE 8, NORTH PARK 2
Benedictine did not take the lead in the contest until the bottom of the sixth when the team saw seven runs score.
Trailing 2-1 entering the frame the bats erupted, especially with two outs. Six individuals drove home runs in the inning.
Oppenhuis logged two more hits in the second game while
Breanne Deutscher notched three from the bottom of the order.
Benedictine (8-4) opens conference play with a pair of games at Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday.
