On a day when there were wind advisories, a strong wind to left led to a high-scoring doubleheader that saw Benedictine and Lakeland split.
BENEDICTINE 18, LAKELAND 7
Benedictine scored in six different innings and hit four homers to win the opener.
George Betevis homered twice and led off the game with a blast to set the tone. Benedictine did not trail and led 10-1, 11-2 and 15-2. Betevis was retired just once, finishing with four hits, four runs scored and four RBIs to go with a walk. Tommy Jusi, Jr. and
Nic Castrovillari also homered.
Conner Kendall worked five innings to win, allowing just an unearned run while fanning five. Things got interesting late with both teams scoring five times in the seventh.
LAKELAND 7, BENEDICTINE 6
Lakeland scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to steal a split.
Kyle Campbell and
Justin Nonnenmann both homered in the game for Benedictine. Benedictine held leads of 2-0 and 5-2 in the game before the four-run eighth.
CJ Jensik struck out eight in 6.2 innings., allowing just two earned runs.
Benedictine (10-9, 2-4 NACC) visits Concordia Chicago on Tuesday.
