The Benedictine University softball team finished out their spring break trip to Florida with a split, blanking Neumann 8-0 before falling to Eastern 16-5.
In the opener
Mckenzie Johnson tossed a five-inning no-hitter in the circle, striking out seven while walking two in the affair. Benedictine provided plenty of support by scoring two runs in each of the first two innings before plating four in the fourth.
Victoria Duszynski opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly while
Taylor Oppenhuis added an RBI single. Eight different players posted a hit in the historic contest. Oppenhuis tallied two hits and two RBIs. Duszynski also drove home two.
Jasmine Lozano notched two hits.
Benedictine scored twice in the top of the first in game two but Eastern responded with seven in the bottom and went on to score in three consecutive frames, adding another seven-spot in the third. Oppenhuis drove home the first run on a fielder's choice and
Haley Barnes scored the second on a wild pitch. Seven different pitchers appeared in the circle. Benedictine saw five different individuals log hits.
Morgan Bruno reached three times out of the leadoff slot, coaxing a pair of walks.
Benedictine (6-4) is slated to play a doubleheader at home on March 18 against North Park.
