The Benedictine University softball team finished off a busy week with a split of two conference games against Wisconsin Lutheran at home.
BENEDICTINE 11, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 0 - GAME ONE
Benedictine scored six runs in the first inning and plated runs in each subsequent frame to ease to a win in the opener.
Victoria Duszynski put Benedictine on the board in the first with a two-run single. Benedictine was then able to take advantage of a miscue to score four more in the inning.
Benedictine banged out 11 hits in the win.
Mckenzie Johnson,
Breanne Deutscher, Duszynski and
Jenna Bartke all logged two hits. Bartke crossed the plate three times. Johnson nearly fired a complete game shutout in the circle, working 4.2 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out five.
Lauren Gallagher recorded a strikeout to end the game.
WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 10, BENEDICTINE 3
The visitors scored in the first inning and did not trail, answering every Benedictine attempt to rally. Wisconsin Lutheran connected on back-to-back homers in the third to lead 3-0. Benedictine loaded the bases in the fourth and scored twice. Bartke coaxed a bases loaded walk and
Lauren Bogard added a sacrifice fly. Wisconsin Lutheran scored three in the fifth, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh to nab a split of the two games.
Duszynski finished with two of the six Benedictine hits. Five different pitchers appeared in the loss.
Benedictine (15-11, 4-6 NACC) heads on the road Tuesday to meet Concordia Wisconsin.
