Baseball Runs NACC Win Streak to Eight

The Benedictine University baseball team has now won eight consecutive conference games, scoring at least seven runs in each of those contests after sweeping visiting Edgewood on Saturday. Benedictine did not trail in either game.

BENEDICTINE 11, EDGEWOOD 5
Benedictine turned a pair of errors into six unearned runs and held off a late charge to win the opener.

Nic Castrovillari connected on a two-run homer in the first inning to set the tone. Benedictine led 6-0 after adding four runs in the fifth. Edgewood drew within 6-4 in the eighth before Benedictine tallied five runs to put the game away.

Six different individuals drove home runs as Castrovillari, Justin Nonnenmann and Tommy Jusi all knocked home two. Conner Kendall worked eight innings to grab his fourth win, walking three and striking out six. Kyle Campbell tallied two hits as Benedictine needed just eight to score the 11 runs.

BENEDICTINE 10, EDGEWOOD 6
The second contest was very similar to the opener. Castrovillari opened the scoring with a first inning sacrifice fly and Mike Budorcik, the reigning NACC Player of the Week, kicked off another big game with an RBI single as Benedictine led 2-0. Benedictine held an 8-1 lead in the game. Budorick doubled home two in the third to make the score 4-0 and added a seventh inning homer. Edgewood brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth after scoring five times but Benedictine was able to maintain the lead and picked up insurance on a sacrifice fly from Brennan Fisher.

Jackson Bahn threw six innings to earn his first win of the season, allowing just one run while striking out seven. Three pitchers combined to finish the contest. Benedictine logged 12 hits in the second contest. Fisher finished with three along with Budorick. Campbell tallied two.

Benedictine (19-13, 11-7 NACC) hosts Elmhurst in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.
