Playing the only scheduled game under the lights, the Benedictine University baseball team homered to a 9-2 win over visiting Elmhurst on Tuesday night.
Elmhurst scored an unearned run in the top of the first. The run was the lone notch that
CJ Jensik would allow. Benedictine immediately responded in the bottom of the first, scoring three times.
Nic Castrovillari and
Mike Budorick tallied consecutive RBI singles before Tommy Jusi lifted a sacrifice fly.
The score remained 3-1 until
George Betevis drilled a two-run homer in the sixth.
Kevin Butler connected on a two-run homer in the seventh before Betevis added his second of the night, also a two-run shot. Benedictine scored nine unanswered runs to streak to the win.
Jensik struck out 10 and allowed just one hit in six innings.
Anthony Sexton tossed two innings with
Steven Byrne working the ninth. Butler and
Brennan Fisher both posted three hits as Benedictine amassed 14. Betevis added two. All nine members of the lineup posted hits.
Benedictine (20-13) travels to Marian on Saturday.
