The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team rallied in the second quarter to surge to a second straight win, scoring an 8-3 decision on the road in Iowa against Cornell College.
Cornell scored the lone goal of the opening 15 minutes on a man-up situation in the final two minutes.
AJ Smerz tied the score on a feed from
Oliver Hulbert less than two minutes into the second. A little over three minutes later Benedictine had connected on three straight to lead 3-1.
Aiden Elliott set up
Luis Hernandez with the go-ahead tally, the second of five straight as Benedictine led 5-1 at the break. The defense held Cornell at bay for the remainder of the contest as Benedictine notched insurance tallies to secure the victory.
Benedictine posted 34 shots, 23 of which were on target. Benedictine also collected 38 groundballs. Hernandez and
Luke Grant both found the net twice in the low-scoring affair. Smerz tallied a goal and an assist with Elliott notching a goal and two assists.
Colin Doyle recorded 10 saves in goal.
Jack Whalon, the NACC Player of the Week, won 12 faceoffs in 14 tries.
Benedictine (3-8, 2-4 NACC) visits Beloit on Saturday in another conference affair.
