Seeded seventh, the Benedictine University men's lacrosse team carried a lead in the fourth quarter but suffered a 12-10 loss at the University of Dubuque to end the season in the NACC Tournament.
Luis Hernandez handed Benedictine a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Dubuque followed with two straight to lead 2-1 before Hernandez scored twice in less than a minute in the closing minutes of the first.
Robert Schroeder pushed the lead to 4-2 early in the second. Down 6-5,
Jack Dardis and
Luke Grant scored in the final two minutes to give Benedictine a 7-6 halftime edge.
Dubuque scored twice early in the third and led 9-8 late in the third before Grant tied the game and Hernandez struck early in the fourth, but the hosts scored the final three goals to earn the victory.
Benedictine posted 30 shots, collected 29 groundballs and won 16 faceoffs but could not convert in a man-up situation, finishing 0-for-4. Hernandez scored five times and added an assist. Grant scored twice while Schroeder posted two goals and an assist.
Colin Doyle recorded 15 saves in net.
The team finished the season with a 6-12 record.
