Softball Sweeps Marian

The Benedictine University softball team scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to sweep visiting Marian in a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

BENEDICTINE 9, MARIAN 0
The opener produced little drama as Benedictine utilized a pair of big innings to record a shortened victory.

Benedictine put four runs on the board in the second inning to take the lead early. Mckenzie Johnson helped her cause with an RBI single to open the scoring. Morgan Bruno added an RBI single and Breanne Deutscher also added an RBI single that saw another run score on a throwing error.

Benedictine put the game out of reach with five runs in the fourth. The first two runs were unconventional with a double steal and a sacrifice bunt. Victoria Duszynski and Jasmine Lozano tallied RBI singles before another double steal finished out the scoring.

Johnson tossed a one-hitter, striking out five in the win. Benedictine finished with 10 hits. Four players logged two apiece, Deutscher, Duszynski, Lauren Bogard and Johnson.

BENEDICTINE 2, MARIAN 1
The second contest was the polar opposite of the opener.

Marian broke a scoreless tie with a single run in the fourth. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth. Bruno led off with a single and Haley Barnes singled with one away. Duszynski tied the game with an RBI single and facing a new hurler, Jasmine Lozano lifted a sacrifice fly to deep left to hand Benedictine the win.

Morgan Magnabosco allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings. Bartke tallied two of the six Benedictine hits.

Benedictine (19-13, 6-8 NACC) is back in action on Sunday, welcoming Concordia Chicago.
