Baseball Splits Conference Opener

The Benedictine University baseball team opened the home and conference schedule by splitting two games with St. Norbert.

FINAL SCORE
Benedictine 4, St. Norbert 1 - Gm 1

THE DETAILS
- Benedictine opened a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Justin Nonnenmann walked with the bases loaded
- Two more runs scored in the sixth on a single from David Kaminsky, providing plenty of run support
- Kamisky also added a sacrifice bunt to score a run
- Braden Behrens, the conference pitcher of the week and national rookie of the week runner-up, was dealing on the mound, allowing just a single run in the ninth

STAT LEADERS
- Behrens logged another complete game, allowing just seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts
- Benedictine finished with nine hits in the opener
- Hank Friedrich and Preston Popovich both tallied two hits while Kaminsky drove home three

FINAL SCORE
St. Norbert 10, Benedictine 4

THE DETAILS
- Benedictine built an early 3-0 lead in the second contest
- Nonnenmann tripled home a pair in the bottom of the first and Friedrich singled home a run in the second
- St. Norbert took advantage of three unearned runs to even the game
- The guests scored 10 unanswered to pull away, adding seven over the sixth, seventh and eighth
- Benedictine scored their final run in the ninth when Nonnemann doubled home a run

STAT LEADERS
- Conner Kendall worked six innings and allowed just two earned runs, walking two and striking out four
- Four pitchers combined to finish out the game
- Benedictine posted double-digit hits but could not find a way to score more runs
- Mike Budorick led the attack with three hits
- Nonnenmann and Friedrich posted two each with Nonnenmann driving home three
