Softball Battles to Split in Road Conference Matchup with Aurora

The Benedictine softball team earned a split in its NACC doubleheader at Aurora on Sunday, cruising to a run-rule victory in game one before falling in a close contest in game two. 

FINAL SCORE
Benedictine 11, Aurora 1 (5 innings)

THE DETAILS
-Benedictine jumped out early with two runs in the first inning on a Taylor Oppenhuis two-run single
-The Eagles added three more in the second behind RBI hits from Morgan Bruno, Lauren Bogard, and Haley Barnes to take a 5-0 lead
-Benedictine continued to roll in the third, adding two runs with RBI hits from Bruno and Bogard
-Aurora scored its lone run on a solo home run in the fourth
-The Eagles responded with four runs in the fifth, with Morgan Bruno picking up her third RBI of the game and Alyssa Perkins driving in a run with a single to seal the run-rule victory 

STAT LEADERS
-Morgan Bruno had four hits, four runs scored, and three RBIs
-Lauren Bogard recorded three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs
-Alyssa Perkins added three hits and an RBI
-Mckenzie Johnson allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts

THE DETAILS
-Aurora built an early 4-0 lead with two runs in the second and two more in the third
-Benedictine answered in the sixth with a three-run inning, sparked by RBI doubles from Jasmine Lozano and Mia Giammarese and an RBI single from Jenna Bartke
-The Eagles took the lead in the seventh when Haley Barnes launched a two-run home run to make it 5-4
-Aurora responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs to walk it off and secure the win

-Haley Barnes recorded two hits, one run scored, and two RBIs including a home run
-Jasmine Lozano tallied two hits, one run scored, and one RBI
