Baseball Unable to Solve Illinois Tech

The Benedictine University baseball team hit the road for a conference doubleheader and was unable to solve Illinois Tech, dropping both contests.

THE DETAILS
- Illinois Tech built an early lead in the opener and held off a late Benedictine surge
- The hosts scored four in the first and two in the second
- The lead grew to 8-0 with single runs in the seventh and eighth
- Benedictine came to life with four runs in the ninth
- An error allowed a run to score before Mike Budorick drilled a three-run homer
- The second game was back-and-forth before Illinois Tech walked off with three runs in the bottom of the ninth
- Benedictine led 6-0 and held the lead until the hosts tied the game at 9-9
- Benedictine again led 11-9 before the late heroics

STAT LEADERS
- Benedictine held a 9-8 lead in hits but allowed four unearned runs in game one
- Luke Hickey allowed just one earned run in six innings of relief in the first contest
- Hank Friedrich and Matt Santarelli both posted two hits in the opener
- Benedictine finished with 14 hits in the second game
- Preston Popovich tallied three hits while Friedrich, Santarelli, Spencer Geake and Tommy Jusi, Jr. all tallied a pair of hits
- Geake drove in three runs and stole a base
- Benedictine finished with six extra-base hits
