Lisle, Illinois - The Benedictine University men's basketball team ended its season with an exclamation point, dropping Marian University 72-54 in the Northern Athletics Conference North/South Challenge Saturday at the Rice Center.
Benedictine raced to a 14-point lead at the half, shooting 52 percent from the floor (13 of 25) to lead 37-23. The Eagles closed the opening 20 minutes on an 11-0 run to gain separation.
Marian chipped away at the lead on several occasions in the second half, but Benedictine always had an answer.
Rob Bridgeman capped a 13-2 run after Marian pulled within eight by hitting a free throw with 3:06 left that put the Eagles up 64-48.
Jerrell Tribble led Benedictine in scoring for the second consecutive contest with a game-high 21 points.
Michael Fahey kicked in 12 points while
Cameron Snelling added 11. Nine different players scored for the Eagles in the win.
Marian (9-16) was led by Bryan Ashbeck's 13 points. Logan Rankin chipped in 10 off the bench.
The 54 points allowed is the second lowest total against the Eagles this season. Benedictine limited Maranatha Baptist to just 53 in a win on January 16.
Benedictine closes the season with a winning record at 14-11.
