Men's Basketball Falls at Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team rallied in the second half but fell 84-71 on the road at Edgewood College on Saturday in a rematch of the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Championship game.

Edgewood's Dylan Rusch hit a three-point just before the midway point of the first half to put the hosts ahead by double figures at 27-17. Edgewood went on to lead by as many as 16 in the first half, building a 53-40 advantage at the half after shooting 64 percent from the field.

Playing from behind the entire second half Matt Mackowiak finished an 8-0 run with a three to bring Benedictine within 55-50. Edgewood again stretched the lead to double figures before Benedictine whittled the deficit to just one a 68-67 with less than five minutes remaining on a layup from Kyle Bickler. Benedictine managed just four points the rest of the way in succumbing to the unbeaten leaders of the North.

Edgewood (9-0, 4-0) was led by a career high 34 points from Ben Wisniewski. Jamison Montgomery paced Benedictine with a season high 20 points while Mark Pace added 19. Raphael Oglesby contributed 11 off the bench. The Eagles shot a season high 51 percent from the field in the defeat.

Benedictine (3-4, 2-2), who has dropped consecutive road contests, will return home on Wednesday to face Elmhurst College in an 8:30 p.m. contest at the Rice Center.
