SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team put up a season high 92 points, but it wasn't enough in a 101-92 road loss at Lakeland to halt a season best six-game win streak.
Facing the top scoring team in the conference, Benedictine quickly fell behind in the first half at 14-6 less than five minutes into the contest. After battling back to within two points after a
Raphael Oglesby jumper, Lakeland embarked on an 11-0 run to jump ahead 34-21. Lakeland went on to lead by as many as 18 in the first half, shooting 54 percent en route to a 51-36 halftime edge.
Lakeland held a 76-56 lead with 8:54 to play before Benedictine scored eight straight including a pair of threes from
Michael Woolf to gnaw within 76-64. The Eagles eventually dwindled the deficit to just five points with 2:06 remaining, but Lakeland hit 11-of-12 free throws down the stretch to seal the decision. The Muskies buried 33 free throws in the win while Benedictine hit 25.
Nate Green led four Benedictine players in double figures, just missing a triple-double. Green netted a season high 31 points to go along with nine rebounds and nine assists. Oglesby added 17 off the bench while
Mark Pace amassed 15 and Woolf 13 in the first loss since January 14.
Benedictine (10-11, 8-5) is now tied with Rockford atop the South Division. The Eagles will travel to Dominican University on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
