SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team was unable to keep up with Lakeland College in a conference clash on Saturday afternoon, falling 98-84.

Benedictine trailed for most of the first half as Lakeland led by as many as nine points, moving ahead for good in the half at the 17:10 mark. The half featured four early ties and four lead changes with both squads shooting over 50 percent but Lakeland held a 48-41 lead.

Trailing by nine early in the second half, Michael Woolf drained a three to open a 13-0 run that saw Benedictine jump in front at 56-52 when John Dodson splashed home a jumper with 16:00 left. The Eagles led all the way to the midway point of the half before nine straight from Lakeland put the hosts ahead by six. Benedictine whittled the lead down to two points at 70-68 following a Dale Renshaw jumper, but Lakeland accelerated to the finish, scoring eight straight to take control.

"We have to compete defensively or we are not going to win many games," said head coach Keith Bunkenburg. "We play individually on the defensive end and get lazy on and off the ball. We did some good things offensively but 18 turnovers is not acceptable."

Benedictine shot 52.4 percent for the contest and held a 38-30 edge on the glass. Michael Blaszczyk scored a career best 27 points to lead all scorers and added nine rebounds. Woolf notched 17 with Dodson tallying 14 and Tahron Harvey 13.

Benedictine (3-6, 2-3) travels to North Park for a non-conference game on Tuesday night.
