LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team opened a new chapter in facing a familiar rival from other sports, Aurora University, on Tuesday with Aurora winning 13-1.
Aurora scored two quick goals in the first three minutes to take a 2-0 lead.
Hannah Payne was able to bring Benedictine within a goal by scoring on a free position attempt with 21:48 to play in the first half. Aurora went on to score six consecutive goals and lead 8-1 at halftime. The visitors added five second half goals to account for the margin.
Aurora (5-9, 3-4) won for the fourth consecutive contest, holding a 22-15 edge in shots and a 22-17 margin in groundballs.
McKall Pugliese posted six shots for Benedictine with
Annette Dzielski adding five.
Tricia Baluyut stopped eight shots in net.
Benedictine (1-8, 0-5) returns to the field on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in another Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference matchup against Concordia Wisconsin on the road.
