Men's Hoops Back to .500 in NACC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - It took an extra day due to weather, but the Benedictine University men's basketball team is back to the .500 mark in conference play for the first time since early December by virtue of an 81-78 road victory at Concordia Chicago.

An even first half saw eight ties and nine lead changes. The final lead change of the game took place when Jon Bock drained a three with 6:41 remaining in the half to put Benedictine ahead 24-22. Leading by a single point, the Eagles netted seven straight to jump ahead by eight with just over two minutes to play in the first. Michael Blaszczyk tallied five points in the string with a dunk and a three. Benedictine shot 53 percent in the half and led by seven at the break, 40-33.

Concordia Chicago closed within three five minutes into the second but could pull no closer. Benedictine led by as many as 10 points in the half and a Tim McGinty three with 2:48 left stretched the margin to seven. Benedictine was able to seal the game at the free throw line, scoring the final 10 points from the stripe. Following just three visits to the line in the first, the Eagles made 28 treks in the second.

Four players finished in double figures for Benedictine. Blaszczyk led the way with 19, 12 in the first half. McGinty, the NACC Player of the Week, added 13. John Dodson and Tyler Thurston scored 10 apiece.

Benedictine (9-10, 7-7) hosts Edgewood on Saturday night.
