LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team held off Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, recording a 61-58 win.
Benedictine came out of the gates firing, racing to a 13-point lead at 17-4 with 12:31 left in the opening half.
Alex Edmondson nailed a three to finish a 12-0 run opened with three free throws from
Michael Blaszczyk. Wisconsin Lutheran hung in the contest, using a run of 8-0 to close the half to pull within 33-30 at the break.
A pair of threes to start the second half allowed Wisconsin Lutheran to take the lead. Blaszczyk opened a 7-0 run with a jumper which allowed Benedictine to jump ahead 49-43 with 10:30 left in the contest.The visitors fought to within two points on three occasions in the final 7:39 but could not comeback.
Both teams finished the game shooting under 40 percent from the floor. Blaszczyk led all scorers with 16 points, finishing with a double-double by adding 10 rebounds.
Kane Steger added nine points.
Benedictine (5-8, 3-5) travels to Concordia University-Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon.
