Box Score LISLE, Ill. - Linfield College scored a goal with just over 10 seconds remaining to edge the Benedictine University women's lacrosse team 15-14 on Friday afternoon.
The contest was very even throughout. Back-to-back goals from
Samantha Link allowed to open a 4-2 lead. Linfield immediately fired back with consecutive tallies to even the game for the third time. The score was even for the fourth time but Benedictine notched three straight markers to take a lead of 8-5. Linfield struck late to make the score 8-6 at the break.
Linfield was able to knot the game at 10-10 near the mid-point of the second half, the sixth tie of the contest. The visitors struck for three straight goals following another goal from Link to lead for the first time at 13-11.
Hannah Payne scored with just over a minute remaining to force the seventh tie of the afternoon but Linfield raced down following a late turnover to strike with the game winner.
Benedictine held a 13-10 edge in draw controls while managing 27 shots. Three Benedictine goals came on free position attempts. Link scored six times with Payne notching three.
Gabby Rowe and
Jessica McGinnis also added two. Rowe snared nine draw controls.
Irsah Hayat played the entire game in goal and made 10 saves.
Benedictine (1-6) is off until a 7:00 p.m. contest on April 8 with Augustana at home.
