Box Score BELOIT, Wis. - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team netted 12 second half goals but fell just shy at Beloit in an 18-17 defeat.
Beloit scored the first three goals of the game and held a 6-2 lead just before the mid point of the first half.
Hannah Payne and
Becca Gullett scored back-to-back goals to bring Benedictine within 6-4. Beloit rattled off seven straight and led 13-5 at the half.
Elizabeth Ausland scored unassisted just over a minute into the second half to set the tone for the rally. Benedictine scored five consecutive goals late in the half to battle within 17-16 on a goal from Antoinette White with just 1:11 to play. Beloit countered with a quick tally to move ahead by a pair and a late Benedictine goal accounted for the final.
Benedictine held a 34-31 edge in shots and totaled 17 groundballs. Payne scored five goals on nine shots and also scooped three groundballs with six draw controls.
Gabby Rowe and
Samantha Link scored three times each.
Benedictine (1-10, 0-5 MWLC) travels to Dubuque on Monday.
