The Benedictine University men's basketball team celebrated senior day with another second half rally to dispatch visiting Lakeland 60-54 and claim a sixth consecutive victory by playing strong defense again.
Benedictine found themselves trailing 32-25 at the break but outscored the guests 35-22 in the second. After trailing by double digits early in the second,
Nick Howard tied the game with a three and gave Benedictine the lead for the first time moments later with a free throw. Benedictine only led for just over 11 minutes in the game, a contest that featured five ties and six lead changes. Benedictine scored the final six points of the contest to erase a loss from earlier this year.
Benedictine shot just 32 percent in the contest but Lakeland finished under 30 percent. Benedictine held a 52-47 lead on the glass led by senior
Trevor Montiel, who was honored before the game, with 16. Benedictine finished with 28 points in the paint.
Drew Stokes led the scoring with 18 points, adding eight rebounds.
Brandon McCoy also hit double figures with 11 as Benedictine used an eight-man rotation.
Benedictine (12-7, 9-3 NACC) hosts MSOE on Wednesday night.
