It took two days, but the Benedictine University men's lacrosse team opened the season with a tough 16-14 loss to visiting North Central.
The game started on Friday night but accumulating snow on the field forced the postponement of the remainder of the game until Saturday afternoon.
Will Robinson gave Benedictine the lead on Friday night but North Central responded with three straight before the stoppage. North Central did not trail again, opening a five goal lead at 9-4 at the half. Benedictine battled within 10-8, 14-12 and 16-14 but North Central answered every time to pull out the win.
Robinson scored six goals and added an assist to lead Benedictine.
Tyler Sarna logged three with a pair of assists and
Dylan Langley scored two.
Ben Zimmerman scored a goal and notched four assists.
Jonathan Zimmerman won eight faceoffs and led the team with five groundballs.
James McDonald stopped 11 shots in goal. North Central held a 45-36 lead in shots.
Benedictine (0-1) is on the road Wednesday at Illinois Wesleyan.
