The Benedictine University women's basketball team led by 10 points after three quarters but dropped a two-point contest with Edgewood, suffering a 55-53 defeat at home on Wednesday night.
Benedictine led for nearly the entire contest. The game featured four ties and three lead changes. Benedictine came out strong to open the game, building a 13-4 lead just over halfway through the opening quarter. Benedictine held a 19-18 lead after one and a 34-26 edge at the half. Edgewood, currently tied for the conference lead, opened the fourth quarter with a 13-0 run and was able to hold off a late rally to avoid the upset.
Jordan Carlquist led the way with 19 points, all in the first half.
Autumn Rucker also reached double digits with 11.
Sophia Hardy reeled in 10 rebounds. Benedictine made 11 three-pointers, eight in the first half, and shot 31 percent for the game.
Benedictine (8-14, 8-5 NACC) welcomes Aurora on Saturday afternoon. The seniors will be honored before the game.
